If we’ve been connecting here for awhile, some may know that I quite enjoy an opera performance in whichever city I happen to be at. This past weekend, I attended Vancouver Opera‘s latest performance – Puccini’s La Bohème.
During my Royal Conservatory Music days, Puccini was one of the composers I studied – each time I attend an opera performance, it brings back nostalgia of those days of studying these classic pieces.
La Bohème is not only a story of love, but encompasses issues that are still present in contemporary society. Poverty and high unemployment rates are all themes throughout this piece. There are 4 Acts in total, and each one makes you feel all the emotions possible. Don’t forget to bring some tissues for the final act, don’t say I didn’t warn ya.
I found that Ji-Min Park (as Rodolfo) had an exceptionally amazing performance. From his vocals hitting each pitch perfectly, to the array of emotions, he truly delivered a beautiful performance – along with the rest of the cast.
What Did I Wear For The Evening?
For this evening, I opted for a classic look. What screams classic more than a little black dress? I paired this v-neck dress from MANGO with a bright Louis Vuitton patent leather bag, finishing the look with an equally bright Yves Saint Laurent red lippie to match. Since the performance was only 2 days after Valentine’s Day, and the theme of the opera is a love story, I wanted to add a dash of red to my look.
You can find YSL Beauty products at the following locations:
Bloomingdale’s Neiman Marcus Saks Fifth Avenue
And of course a pair of trusty black Jimmy Choo heels for a night out.
I love the simplicity of my Cartier love lock charm, and I can never go wrong with wearing this piece whether for daily wear, or occasions that call for a more professional or classy look. My necklace is the single white gold necklace, there are also yellow gold and double locks. You can shop the latest full collection -> here.
I recommend wearing more classic colours and pieces when attending an opera performance. The key is elegance and classic looks. Dresses that are slightly below the knee, or full length. Suits or dress shirts + business formal pants. Definitely no jeans or tights 🙂
Thank you Vancouver Opera for the invite and having me at this performance, an absolute treat! I highly recommend if you’re in town for their next 3 shows, tickets are available through their website or in person box office sales.
